absolutely, definitely(=totally)와 exactly


absolutely, definitely(=totally)는 거의 같은 의미로 쓰이지만 exactly는 다르다.
우선 absolutely, definitely(=totally)

회화나 미드에 자주 등장하는 이 부사구들은 사실 하나의 뉘앙(nuance)스이다.
나.. 완전 ~해 어거나 부정형으로서 나.. 완전 ~아니야 라는 표현 말이다.
미국식 회화에서는 "absolutely" 와 "definitely"는 매우강한 동의를 바라는 질문에 대한 대답
강한"YES" 의미한다.

Are you sure you want to break up with John? (당신 존과 결별을 원하다는게 확실한 거야?)
Absolutely! (완전 확실해)

Are you sure you turned the oven off? (당신 오븐을 끈것이 확실하지?)
Definitely. (완전 확실하지!)


혹은 매우 강한 반대답을 바라는 질문에 대한 답 강한 "NO"를 의미한다.

Do you want to tell Jane that her boyfriend is lying to her? (너는 제인에에게 그녀의 남친이 그녀에게 거짓말하고 있다고 말하길 원해?)
Definitely not! (절대 아니야!)

Are you willing to get up early tomorrow morning to walk the dog? (당신은 기꺼이 낼 아침 일찍 일어날 의향이 있어 강아지 산책시키러)
Absolutely not!​ (절대 아니지!)

definitely
"it was definitely too expensive"; 그것은 완전 비싸
"Mary is defintely engaged to John, she told me so herself" 메리는 확실히 존과 약혼했어. 그녀가 나에게 그렇게 말했어.

exactly는 정확히, 틀림없이 라는 뜻이다. 앞의 부사와는 조금 다른 의미이다.

(이 조각 케익은 정확 그 조각케익처럼 같은 크기야)
"I put exactly 2 teaspoons of sugar in the coffee " (난 정확히 커피에 2스푼의 설탕을 넣어)

"the table is exactly 31 inches tall" (테이블은 정확이 31인치 높이야)
